This post is for parents with very young kids who will one day be teenagers. The best way to help your child have a chance at becoming wealthy is to make sure they can read and understand what they read really well. Sometimes parents focus so much on becoming wealthy themselves that they forget to invest in their child's future. One of the best investments you can make is in your child’s ability to grow wealth.
If you have very young children, it’s super important to develop their reading skills early. From around age two to four, spend at least 5 to 10 minutes most nights reading them bedtime stories. Little children’s books are perfect, and you only need a few. The more, the better, of course. If money is tight, you can get these books from pediatrician offices, churches, or any place that supports child needs. Reading the same book over and over is fine—they’ll still enjoy it. Plus, if you’re not a confident reader yourself, children’s books are great for practice. After a few years, by the time your child is five or six (or even earlier), they’ll likely be reading the books on their own and ready for longer books and eventually chapter books. Studies show that a child's personality starts to form as early as first grade, so these early years are crucial for making sure your child loves reading.
Creating a learning environment focused on reading and comprehension early on will help your child read at or above grade level throughout their school years. This is the basic step that must be incorporated for your child to have a chance at building wealth in the future. Reading and comprehension skills are key to getting advanced careers that can build wealth. They’ll also help with understanding things like compound interest, real estate, the stock market, contract negotiations, and owning businesses. These are the things that will create wealth for your family.
