One important secret to building wealth is the group of friends you hang out with. In middle school and high school, many kids choose friends based on popularity or because they’re fun to be around. That’s totally normal, but if you can, try to also get involved with groups for learning about money management, designing products, or starting businesses and so forth. As teens, you have many opportunities to build skills that can help you succeed after high school. Finding the right group of friends can help you stay focused and creative. Many wealthy people started in groups, often in their garages, whether they became famous bands, tech billionaires, scientists, or other entrepreneurs.
Your friends can either help you succeed or hold you back. Think about the friends you spend time with. Are they distracted by negative things like drugs, underage drinking, fighting, teenage gossip? Are they not interested in learning and doing their best in school? It’s important to consider these things when choosing your friends. Look for people who are focused on building a successful future. You can also try to convince your current friends to focus on wealth building as well. The sooner you start thinking about building wealth, the more you will attract like-minded people who will help you move forward.
It’s easy to get caught up with friends who might lead you into trouble or doing things that seem cool during high school. But remember, there’s much more to life after high school. It’s a very different and more advanced world than you realize. Social media and peer pressure can be big distractions for teens. The world as we know it will never probably put tons of focus on teaching the youth about wealth building in high school. Our society will look the other way when it comes to teens listening to toxic music, television, apps and violent video games. So, It’s very important to also focus on what really matters for your future success. Start researching and learning about building wealth early and find friends who share the same goals.
